Paraphrase Pass

Paraphrasers and humanizers

Two kinds of rewriting tools. Paraphrasers change wording for clarity, tone or length. Humanizers are sold on one promise: that the rewritten text will pass a detector. The second group is why marks and detectors keep changing.

What to know before paying

  • Detectors now train on humanizer output. Turnitin added bypasser detection in August 2025 and Pangram reports high detection of humanized text. A rewriter that passed in 2024 can score as AI in 2026, and vendors rarely publish dated results.
  • A paraphrase removes a watermark but does not remove the record. Google Docs history, Turnitin's typing replay, draft files and retrieval of prior model outputs are all used as evidence alongside scores.
  • Academic integrity policies treat submitting rewritten model output as the student's own work as misconduct, whatever the score says.
  • The model providers' own policies apply to anyone building a rewriter on their APIs. Both Anthropic's and OpenAI's usage policies restrict deceptive uses, including presenting generated text as human work.
  • Google Ads prohibits advertising academic-dishonesty services, which is why this market is driven by affiliate reviews and search rankings rather than independent testing.
  • The law is moving. The EU Code of Practice asks signatories to keep marks as non-removable as they can, and California's AI Transparency Act bars large platforms from knowingly stripping provenance data from January 1, 2027.
